strong malty taste

yes i'm here with more questions, as i enter what seems more of a dark art!

I've just finished a Geordie bitter and it's been in my pressure barrel over 2 weeks now primed and left to clear, now i've come to taste it and have found it tastes and smells like the original wort mix before fermentation the malt taste is so strong not the usual smooth taste of the bitter , i used a 50/50 mix of DME and sugar, and before it's been fine, but this one has taken by far the longest to ferment and to clear.

I'm at a loss not sure whats happened? can i make it palatable?

Did it show the normal signs of fermentation and did you check the specific gravity before you put it in the barrel?

yes everything was fine, fermented well over 14 + days, looked good and smelt fine when i changed it over to the barrel. think the gravity was around 1010 so it seemed ok to me,
