This may be a dumb question but...I'm about to start brewing my first bitter from a kit and was thinking of using a mixture of brewing sugar and malt extract. I live in London where, for reasons that defy all explanation, there appear to be no home brewing shops at all (I can order online but it increases the expense), but I see that brewing sugar is often listed as glucose. Holland & Barrett sell powdered glucose - and cheaper than brew shops usually. Is this any different from 'brewing sugar'? I noticed that the H&B glucose has vitamin C added. Is this likely to cause a problem? They also sell malt extract syrup. Is this usable in beer brewing?
Thanks
Can I use glucose and malt extract from Holland & Barrett?
Re: Can I use glucose and malt extract from Holland & Barrett?
the glucose will be fine to use,
I know folk used it years ago to brew with it and I may be wrong but the malt extract may not be of brewing quality. like it may not be made from a decent barley like two-row.

Thanks Garth. Has anyone here tried using malt extract syrup from non-brewing sources?
