25 years off
Hello everyone, just returned to brewing after about 25 years away.I got Edme stout and Edme Yorkshire Bitter conditioning in kegs right now.I wanna try a 2 tin kit next as they seem to get good reviews.Any suggestions ? (I'm a bit dubious about the Wherry as there seems to be a problem with stuck fermentations).Regards-Dave
Re: 25 years off
I have done a couple of the brewers choice kits using option 2 (1 kg spray malt) or option 3 (liquid malt extract) and I liked them very much.
I have also done a few Coopers kits, using 1Kg spray malt rather than the recommended sugar, and I cannot even begin to tell you how good their IPA is (I made it up to 20L, not 23 as by instructions, with 1kg spray malt, I boiled 15g of styrian goldings and dry hopped with another 15 g, as recommended by Daab). Absolutely amazing! Highly recommended!!!
I have also done a Woodforde's Admiral reserve and despite the final result not being too bad, it was a major pain. It stuck and I had to restart it with dry beer enzyme, because nothing else worked. I'm not going back to Muntons/Woodfordes any time soon, until they sort themselves out!
So yes....brupack or coopers is my advice

Re: 25 years off

Just to echo the above, really: Muntons = Shit. The end product isn't Too bad. Right side of mediocre. But it's a real PITA to get it there. Why put up with that?
I'm the unauthorised cheer leader for Coopers Stout myself. Anyone tries that and doesn't find it amazing? I'll come round and drink it myself!

Not really an IPA man myself. But, if Daab says it's good? Go For It! Coopers won't let ye down

Re: 25 years off
Cheers guys, Coopers it is then. As for choosing between Stout and IPA I guess I'll just have to do both. Regarding the IPA, do I use 1kg of spraymalt as well as the 2 tins ? and what SG and FG will I be aiming for ?.Thanks in advance and I must say what a great bunch of blokes inhabit this site.Cheers-Dave
Re: 25 years off
Coopers IPA is just 1 tin. So the tin+1kg light spraymalt. I made it up to 20L only, and the OG was around the 1.052-1.054 mark, if I remember correctly. FG around 1.014. yummy...especially with the dry hopping
Re: 25 years off
Sorry to thread hijack but whats the problem with Muntons?
I have just started brewing and my first will be a Muntons Pilsner.
