Barrelling

Two questions

1. When transfering from the FV to the Barrel do i have to syphon or can i just place the barrel directly below the FV and drain into the barrel via the FV tap?

2. When adding the sugar should i put this in the bottom of the barrel first or should i disolve it in some water / bit of mixture from the FV?

Thanks Chris. The tube that came with my kit doesn't fit the tap so i think i'll nip to HBS and get a large ID tube to make life easier.
