Quick (daft probably) qusetion

Hi all

Quick q on adjusting strength of kits.

I normally like my ale to have a little more kick, so can I make up a 40 pint kit (woodfordes wherry for example) and add less water? i.e make it up to 30 pints instead of 40? I presume this is how the Headcracker types are done?

The only problem with doing that is that the bitterness will go up as well as the strength. You may like hoppy beers, though, in which case you might still like it.

How would I temper this bitterness then Jim? I guess the initial tinned beauty would need refining eh? (Kev senses he is out of luck in his strong beer plans) [-o<

Actually I've got one. I presume I'd be fine to boil brewing sugar (aka glucose) before adding it to the FV? I'd do so to ensure minimal chance of any 'nastys' getting in with said sugar.
