Just the weird and wonderful gases produced during fermentation, you'll be fine.

I made a Theakstons Old Peculiar last week, an extract brew using DME from the LHBS. after a day or two it also smelt of eggs but after a few days the smell had gone so I'm sure you'll be fine. maybe this is usual with stouts. I used Nottingham yeast

I got a bit ambitious with this. Added 250 dark dme, 500g medium dme + beer kit enhancer. Thats why i pitched with two S04. I did add half a campden tablet this time (See my previous posts!) due to bad results previously.
This is the first time I've used S04 and the first stout I've done so its unchartered territory for me.
Just wasn't expecting it off a stout. Its slightly reminiscent of some marstons pedigree I once had out of bottle.

I've checked it this morning. Still totten eggs lo. Took a reading its gone from 1050 on Fri down to 1020 today. The Krausen has dispersed.just a few bubbles. Do I need to rouse it or shall i leave it in peace?

My coopers lager has started smelling like rotten eggs today too, will it be ok as its a lager??

Cheers

the rotten eggs smell is better associated with lagers than stouts to be honest so i wouldnt worry a jot.

Had a sneaky sample last night, rotten egg smell is subsiding now. Tastes ok as well, definitely no bitter taste I've had in everything before. I used campden tabs for the first time - so it must be the water. All those kits i bloody used - still now i know.
I would say it tastes more like a porter at the moment. Is this likely to change by the time it finishes?
