well just started up the Woodforde's Wherry Beer Kit i got inc in the muntons kit from leyland. picked up a bin as well so i can rack it to the king keg to save on the chances of any odd tastes.

i use to do wine about 8 years ago but gave all my gear away when i needed room. so i thought id dive back in with some beer this time around.

anyways heres to some good beer in a month or so.

and for any interested heres the wee bin in action. one question should i invest in a airlock system for my next kit or will it be ok without and just burping it every so offten ??

ignore the snake it keeps the beer safe from my dad 8)

tell me about it, id forgoten what a 5 gallon load felt like for moving.

just got to wait and see how it turns out now in a couple of weeks for racking to the king keg. any advice about how cool of a place i should stick the king keg after iv racked it off ?? we do have an old fashiond pantry which is normaly 10C most of the time so i was thinking about sitting it in there a couple of weeks.

the one great thing about an airlock is that you can physically see how the fermentation is coming along - you can get gromets to put in a small hole or simply drill a larger one (25mm I think?) to fit a drilled bung in the top.

Fermentation shouldn't take more than a week anyway, forum rule of thumb is 11 days total for fermentation I believe (~4days primary and 1 week 2ndary which you can do in the keg)

good luck - it's apparently a nice kit

What frothy said about the airlock is good advice, you can buy a lid with a hole and grommet for the airlock already in place.
I tend to leave my kegs indoors for about a week(18deg)then move to my garage/beer cellar for a further few weeks, which at this time of year is on the colder side. The beer clears very well and enables me to serve it cooler than if the keg was kept indoors

well all seems fine for now, its producing gas so i burp it every 12 hours or so, and the temps are 20-23 which. now if i can just keep the old man away from sneaking a peak.

well just racked it off today so its had a full 5 days and change to ferment out, well from the smell and the look its on its way to being a nice bitter :D

cracked the top off of the bin and it smelt as bitter should do, so hopfully in a couple of weeks or so il have 5 gallon to be tasting while the next kit gets fired up. 8)
