Mixing it up a bit?

Post by Phill_it_up » Mon Dec 01, 2008 5:18 pm

Ok i'm addicted now, my frist kit was a youngs Mild kit, turned out ok nothing special but perfectly drinkable, my youngs cider kit has just come of age and is a very pleasant pint, have got a Coopers Larger clearing as we speek and i've just set away a Coopers Stout yesterday. After reading about TC's i'm intreaged, was thinking about making another cider kit but adding half the amount of water and the other half some other kind of juice. my question is, is there anything i should avoid? likes of preservitives and the like ?

Ive been doin a lot of reading about TC as ive aquired 2 demijons. The tips ive picked up are use 100% pure juice with no added nasties. The stuff that isnt pure they add preservatives which hinder the production of alcohol. IF its unavoidable an all you can get is stuff with addatives you need to boil it up in a pan to kill off the preservatives before using it.

Hi,

I've just made a Turbo Cider (TC) with 100% apple juice and a packet of yeast. It's currently annoying the hell out of me with a big bubble out of the airlock every six or seven seconds. If you're using a Cider kit then that you are making Cider and not TC. Chances are it should have enough apple goodness to get it through the ferment without any apple juice assistance. What might suit you better is if you prime your fermented Cider with apple juice so that the sugars in the juice carbonate your brew during secondary fermentation. This should give a good hit of apple to your Cider.

Ultimately the choice is yours and if you're a fan of Cider it's probably likely you will experiment in this dark and seedy TC world at some point and if you don't mix and match you'll never know your favourite road.

(I made 5 litres of TC using Princes 100% Apple Juice from concentrate I already had the ale yeast hanging around so it ended up costing me £2.50)
Planning - Not for a long while

Fermenting - I'm Done

Bottle Maturing - Hobgoblin, Fullers ESB, American Stout, TOP, Fullers London Porter, Bandini Black IPA

Drinking - Still...Whiskey
