Geordie Lager - Any good

Post by matti » Tue Oct 31, 2006 8:33 pm

I was reading on here that someone made geordie yorkshire beer and that it was quite good so I decided to get the kit and make it with spraymalt. Im just kegging it today so havent had change to taste it yet.

Today I noticed in my supermarket that they are selling geordie lager kits reduced to 99p. It must becuse they have a short date. Anyways has anyone tried this kit. I don't want to waste keg space if it isn't going to be nice.

thanks.

Sentimental reasons - geordie yorkshire bitter from a tin the first brew I ever did. My brother still mentions it now 15 years on.
Let us know how the yorkshire geordie tastes ( see my comment above ). I added white sugar with that one so the fact you used spray malt should be even better :D

And at 99p a tin for the lager why not

Thanks you two. The reason why I bought the yorkshire bitter is because I read your post and thought ah they sell that and its a pretty cheap kit. I usually brew with the more expensive kits such as brupaks etc.

Il let you know how the bitter turns out

Sorry, 99p for a kit?

How can you go wrong with that??

Even if the Best Before Date is tomorrow you should be able to keep it around for some time. I know that kits usually last a lot longer than their BBD. In fact as the name states - it is BEST before a specific date - not unusable!!!!!!

My brother used one of my Dad's old beer kits. This was bought from Boots.......... So, you can imagine how old it is. Of the remaining cans it was at least 5 years past the BBD. My brother claims that the beer tasted great. He even used the yeast that was supplied and pitched it straight in!

2p a pint - don't think you could get much cheaper than that. At that price, I would use 2 cans instead of DME/Sugar. 4p a pint and your still on a major winner....

I would agree with Daab, ages ago I made a cheapo Brown ale kit up with two tins and it wasn't paticulary nice, probably cause of the doubled up flavourings, hop extract etc, I later did a Muntons Nut brown single can kit and added a tin of amber extract instead of the sugar or spraymalt and for a single tin kit it was reasonably drinkable, I didn't think it was anything special but to my astonishment everyone I gave it to said it was one of my best kits made...

i've done a geordie lager and so far so good. i'm priming it in plastic bottles so can get more fizz and see whats going on (nosey that way). really looking forward to this one. i got confused with litre and pints and have ended up doing 16 litres instead of 23. i've heard that might make it stronger, if so think its going to be a good xmas in the chopper household.
