When i made my first brew on Friday i added a 1kg bag beer enhancer kit and 250gram of dark brown sugar. Did i make a mistake in doing this? I do hope not :(

If the kit required 1kg of sugar then, yes, I'm afraid you have fallen victim to "learner disease".
It can be tempting to add more sugar in the belief that this will make a stronger, better beer. In most cases it makes a stronger, more watery beer that lacks body, balance and flavour. In some cases it makes paint stripper.

If you want a stronger brew from a kit then it is much, much better to use less water (e.g. 4 gallons) rather than add more sugar. That way the malt/hop balance is preserved.

All is not lost though. The fact that most of your sugar was beer kit enhancer might just salvage the brew to some extent. Suggest you stick with it and see what it turns out like.
