Instead of sugar.....

i know this might offend the purists and laugh at me if you want, i am a novice to homebrewing but could you use a bottle of shandy instead of sugar during primary?

the only reason i ask is i bought a bottle of shandy from the local spar, 89p bargain, and it tastes like the bitter i made on my very first homebrew. i was thinking with the sugar content and the fact its made with bitter hence hops and barley it would work, wouldn't it?

BTW - what make is the shandy? - just curious

spar's own make

thinking of doing a bitter again. when doing a brew pour the wort out of the can then instructions are for 1kg sugar or malt extract or beer enhancer etc. i was just thinking of adding the shandy instead of sugar coz the sugar levels will be the same and it might work as cheap beer enhancer. that was my thinking

It's an interesting idea, but wouldn't you have to use huge quantities of shandy to have equivalent of 1 KG of sugar? I'm also not convinced it would be cheaper than dried malt extract; as for the flavour it would give I'm not sure....

Hmmm :?

You'll probably need something like 10 litres of shandy to equate to a kilo of sugar. The latter will taste marginally less bad, you should really use some malt extract unless cost takes priority over taste.
