Although I've read loads of stuff about exposive coopers, mine did not escape from the fv. I don't know if it's to do with temperature or somthing else. I don't use an air lock just a lid cracked open, not had any problems so far (only my 3rd brew) Embalmer is right, crack on and enjoy!

:-s Sure ye can. But I really wouldn't bother. Truth is, while I laugh and post up pictures of the gorgeous Ms. Taylforth, I honestly don't really have any problems with my own Coopers Stout brews. I'm actually getting a couple on at this moment. Five gallon FV's. Bog standard. Only this time, as it happens, I'm going with 4 1/2 Gallons, just to add that little bit of Oomph to them. But that's just me messing around, now that I have the measure of the normal brew.

Saying that; I do live alone, in a very basic cottage. A little bit of foam on the concrete floor here isn't an issue for me. But nor should ye be experiencing - or expecting - anything a well placed towel couldn't handle

Just relax and enjoy yeself. Look too hard for problems and ye may find them.

mine went in a bog standard 5 gallon fv bin type thing with large lid and air lock, bubbled like mad and had a nice big head on the top but didnt try to escape through the airlock or push the lid off and leak everywhere.... it was fine. Temp was around 24oC throughout.

Whack it in an fv, itll be grand ! :D

Excellent stuff :)

Anyone ever thought of adding a bit of liquorice root steeped for a bit for an extra subtle dimension? Not in my first Coopers Stout brew though!!! ;)

Oops, I ordered Extra Dark Spraymalt, as this is going to ferment in my mother in laws airing cupboard should I take even extra precautions, I was planning to put down some plastic but if her smalls are messed up my life wouldn't be worth living !

That's very true! :D

However, a old towel or a tray under the fermenter should cope with any escape attempts.

I'm not intimately familiar with the sort of fermenters you blokes use over there, but when we brew the Coops Stout kit here, we often grab some cling wrap and put that over the opening of the fermenter, secured in place with the rubber O Ring from the fermenter lid. A zillion pin pricks later and you'd have to be brewing with lava to get overflow - plus you get a good look at the krausen.

Cheers,
TL

I used extra dark in mine as it was the cheapest

I must say it smells absoloutley glorious! If the gravity hasn't changed since yesterday then I'll be looking at around 4.3% of stouty goodness 8)
