first time brewer

Post by greeny228 » Tue Feb 03, 2009 9:37 pm

i have just bottled my first brew (wherry bitter)
i did not take a original gravity reading, but i bottled it at a steady reading of between about 1014 and 1015
but after seeing pictures of other peoples fermenting beer on the forum i feel that mine has not fermented properly, i kept the temperature between 18 and 22 degrees celcius and i left fermenting for 8 days till it was steady, at the most the froth only rose 3 cm up the side of the fermenting vessel.
i am thinking of starting a batch fo coopers stout and i am worried if anything went wrong, and whether my wherry has fermented properly

It sounds like it fermented just fine! Not all beers rise up like a loaf of bread when fermenting, the dark Coopers tend to, but yours sounds perfect, so stop worrying and start licking your lips in anticipation of supping your first home brewed beer =P~ =D>

I did Wherry as my first brew and it didnt drop below 1020-through inexperience i kegged it anyway and ended up tasting great but not hugely alcoholic (something like 2% iirc  )so you have done well to get it to 1014
