Wort has too much water

Post by SeanyP321 » Thu Feb 05, 2009 5:20 pm

I just made my second extract brew. It is a belgium pilsner. I Threw out the instructions because everyone says they are crap and....they were in french.

It's now in the fermenting bucket and I just found out it was designed for 20 litres and I made it with 25 litres of water The OG was 1.030 which doesn't seem right! Fermentation has begun

Is it going to taste like p*ss (bud light)?

anyway of strengthening it up a bit?? Someone suggested adding soe more sugar but I don't know how much/or even if it is a good idea?

Hmmm, I'd add some spraymalt to liven it up, and maybe dry hop later down the line to add some additional flavour.

But then I'm just a newbie so I'd probably make it worse.... :D

Thanks mate,
sounds like a good idea in theory. Are there any experienced brewers who have any objections or ideas?

hey seany

im a newbie too but the experts will tell ya that adding more sugar will up the alcohol and subtract the flavour.

depends what youre looking for.

good luck

well....
you would probably be better off on the extract forum but if you start off with an og of 1030, and assuming you can get it to ferment down to
around 1006/1008 then its going to be around 3 percent.
if you go for bottle conditioning then with the added sugar you are probably going to add another half percent.

thats what the experienced lads on here would call `a good session ale`, and theres nowt wrong with a good session.

if you want to add flavour and alcohol in equal measure then its probably best not to dilute it too much at the start. haha.
