Coopers Brewmaster Irish Stout

Post by BWT » Sun Feb 08, 2009 4:22 pm

Good afternoon Ladies and Gents
I have been following all the posts on Coopers Stout, well i have decided i must give it a go but have bought the Brewmaster not the bog standard. The question i have is that Ditch and others talk about using 1kg of spray malt this can suggests 0.5kg spray malt and 0.3kg of dextrose what should i use?
All replies welcome and eagerly awaited as i have all the equipment in bleach at present ready to go.

Hi Brian,
first of all, where did you manage to get the Coopers Brewmaster Stout from as a few on here have tried and failed?

As for making up the kit...
1st time round I'd be inclined to follow the instructions, 500g dried malt extract (I'd use dark but instructions say light) and 300g brewing sugar.
If you are worried about final alcohol content because of the lower sugar additions then take gravity readings as you fill the FV and stop adding water when you reach your desired SG.

Hi Strange Brew
Your reply came just a bit too late as i was desperate to get this on (SWMBO was out for the afternoon) i went down the popular route of 1kg of dark spray malt however with hindsight you are probably right i should have stuck with the instructions on the can but we live and learn. With regards the Alc content i have no intrest in pushing it up as when i have afew beers i like to be able to stand up and talk verbal crap.
With regards the supplier i got it at the LHBS in Glasgow Glenbrew i think their web site is www.innhousebrewery.co.uk

BWT; I've always favoured Medium SM in my Coopers Stout. I have a fair load of Dark SM here, to be tried as and when. But right now I'm happy with the results I get from Medium. And yes, lowering the water level is, I agree, a better way of upping the 'oomph', without losing the other sort of 'oomph'. But, as ye seem like me; Happy to drink a decent pint and still remain decent? Bit of a moot point ;)

Now then; Ye sourced ye Coopers (BrewMaster) Stout in Bonnie Scotland, eh? Interesting! See; I once got a PM, on here, from someone who said they were the 'UK' (if I remember correctly) Coopers Rep'. This person said the BM stuff was on its way. They'd called it in. They also mentioned they were based in ..... Scotland!

Looks like the eagle has indeed landed! Well, I guess it's now down to their own man to spread the word - and the kits - of this BM formulation. I'll have to bow out, on this one, as I have no experience of it.

I can only hope that, as / if the Coopers (Brew Master) Stout catches on anything like as well as the Coopers Stout, people will be certain to clearly state which one they're referring to. Only, I'd hate to find myself inadvertently offering an opinion on a brew I've never even tasted!

Hi Brian,

I'm sure 1kg of dark dme will be fine.
You'll have to keep us up to date as to how this one goes, I for one and I'm sure a few others would be interested to hear your results on the Brewmaster Stout!

Thanks for the brew shop link, one of my work mates lives in Glasgow so I'll see if I can twist his arm in the right direction for a pick up of a can or two. :D

Morning Folks
Things not good with the Brewmaster Irish Stout started on Sunday 8/2/09 on Thursday morning i threw the hydrometer into the FV gravity 1.026 started at 1.04sh it has remained there since Thursday. On Thursday night gave it a stir but still no, activity I have a sachet of Coopers yeast tempted to throw this in what do you think?
I have read all the posts about the other Coopers Stout really getting going producing big fermentation heads this one never did that just rose about 1/2 inch in the fermenter and then appeared to die. The temperature has remained constant at 21c throughout the whole week.
Could this final gravity be down to the use of 1kg of Dark Spray malt?
Any suggestions or comments would be welcome hope this not about to be F--k up as there has been such great reveiws about the Original

I would definitely re-pitch yeast if your sure its stuck at 1.026. Also add some yeast vit [see sticky].Possibly you didn't rinse well at sanitising stage.Seems very unusual. :? Anyway Im off to bed Im pissed
