Flat Coopers Larger

Post by legion » Mon Feb 16, 2009 2:07 pm

Hi,

I bottled my second ever brew on Sunday 8th Feb mostly in 500ml Plastic sparkling Buxtons water bottles with a teaspoon of sugar in each. I tried one at the weekend and was surprised at how tasty it was. However there was very little fizz and no head on the pint. Having squeezed the bottles, most of the buxton bottles don't feel very pressurized when compared to others that I have used.

I think that the lids were not tightened enough and the CO2 has escaped. I tightened the lids but should I add additional sugar, would it then ferment further and produce a fizzy pint?

Thanks in Advance.

Adam.

i wouldnt expect any kind of fizz for at least three weeks. i have brewed this lager and by about five weeks it had plenty of fizz and a lovely head from start to finish.

Ive never had that problem. the kits ive done ive had fizz within about 3 days of bottling it up.
How much sugar did you use to prime? did you have your bottles in a warmish temp to condition for a week to allow fermentation to continue before storing em?

I put in a teaspoon of sugar into each and they sat next to my radiator in my bathroom at between 18 - 20c for seven days.

Dunno why you dont have carbonation then bit of a strange one. Maybe next time try disolving the sugar in pouring into the FV before bottling.

In the opening of this thread I said that I suspect that the lids were not screwed on tight enough and the gas has escaped. I bottled 35 pints and 24 of these used Buxton bottles, most of these do not feel pressurized, all of the non buxton bottles are fine.

Would adding extra sugar 9 days after bottling help???

I'm assuming it would only help if there was still any active yeast in your bottles.
But I guess there will not be anymore so I dont think adding extra sugar would help this time round.

Would adding a 1/2tsp of water/sugar/yeast help do you imagine?

I think I will leave as it is now, as its been bottled for nearly two weeks. I can happily drink nearly flat beer.

yes i have the same problem though i put mine in a barrel (king Keg) theres about enough pressure to pour about 1/2 a pint
even opened barrel added a started yeast while on heat still nothing
primed barrel with teaspoon per pint when originally barrelled
