Re-using wherry yeast sludge

Post by shaboo » Fri Feb 20, 2009 12:14 pm

I am about to transfer my wherry from fv to barrel and I want to start another woofordes kit straight away.Unfortunatley the said kit is an out of date nog.I understand the tinned contents may be ok but the yeast is not.As I live some distance from nearest homebrew shop could i use some of the yeast sludge from the bottom of my fv or would wine yeast do?

Yes, just tip it on top. I'm doing the exact same thing today.

Hi,

Sorry for not getting back to you. I tipped my 25L of wort straight on top of the entire yeast cake. That was on Friday afternoon. 48 hrs later and my hydrometer is reading 1010! Not sure if this is a good thing... tastes good though. Next time I'll only use a cup worth.

Cheers
