Weak tasting Woodfordes Wherry

Post by chri1577 » Mon Feb 23, 2009 12:00 am

Hi,

Iv brewed Woodfordes Wherry kit. 7 day fermentation from 1045 to 1010. Casked with 80g sugger. 1 week at room temp, 2 weeks at celler temp (12deg).

Just given it a taste check. Nice and clear with no odd flavours and a good hoppy finish... but the over all flavour is still very weak... is this normal? and will there be improvment in comming weeks?...

How cold was it and how fizzy? Either will reduce or mask flavours.

Time will tell, the only time I made that kit it turned out undrinkable, it was my first kit and I poured it down the sink so you could count yourself lucky that it only tastes thin. You probably don't want to drink it for a few more weeks anyway so see what it tastes like then.

I've done Wherry a few times and it normally taste's a lot better after aging, say 5-6 weeks in the cool, Must admit never used a barrel before previously have always bottled my beer ( my first attempt at using a barrel is listed in the forum early, oh woe is me). give it a few more weeks and you should find it'll taste better.I did manage to find this beer in a real ale shop in Richmond and the one thing I can tell you is that the homebrew taste better than the real thing

That's the secret. Minimum 6 weeks in a keg, longer if possible and the beer will taste far better.
