Just a quick question for anybody that knows, I started a Geordie Lager with 1KG beer enhancer? about 8 days ago, the OG? was about 1040.
It says on the instructions to wait for it to get to 1005 but after testing it at the weekend and again today it doesn't seem to want to go lower than 1012/1014. There are still a few bubbles on the surface but I can't see much activity. I have tasted it and it tastes ok.
Is it just taking it's time? Or is it ready to bottle? Also does using beer enhancer rather than sugar affect the FG?
The reason I ask is that I will be bottling in glass bottles this time and apparently if I bottle too early they could end up exploding.
Thanks
Geordie Lager and Final Gravity
Re: Geordie Lager and Final Gravity
beer enhancer is half glucose sugar and half dsm i think so should make for a better brew but probably wont drop as low as it would if you`d used all sugar.
you could give it a gentle stir with a sanitised spoon to stir up the yeast a bit and check in a couple of days, or if youre getting constant readings
over a few days,go ahead and bottle it.
good luck.

Bottled it a few days ago, tastes ok, but it's very weak
On the other hand the wine is fantastic
It seems there is much more of a knack to beer than there is with wine.

Re: Geordie Lager and Final Gravity
Of all the Geordie range the lager is the only one I find disappointing. I brewed some last summer to enjoy on a hot July evening (some hope!) and restricted it to 35 pints with 50/50 light spraymalt and sugar to give it a more continental feel and less of a Carling/Fosters/Pils with a silent L flavour. It still tasted like gnat's pee.
Having said that, it improved no end after five weeks or so by which time I was down to single figures in pint bottles. You say you started your brew in late February so I would be tempted to go to the pub every night for the next three weeks and sample it again in April. You may discover it's a different animal.
