Coopers Australian Pale Ale

Post by jonnyhop » Wed Mar 11, 2009 11:39 pm

I have just tried a pint of coopers APA that I bottled roughly 5 months ago and it has defiantly aged well. I had a few bottles after a month and they were poor, then the majority after 2 months which where ok and had 5 or 6 left that I had forgotten about, tried one today and wish I had more as these are by far the best.

So I plan to make some more asap for the back end of summer, considering re-culturing the yeast from a couple of bottles of shop bought, has anyone tried this? There appears to be a healthy amount in each bottle.

Also I e-mailed coopers asking about adding hops and they suggested fuggles. I have never added hops to a kit before, any ideas how much? I was thinking 20g steeped in the can for about 15mins then added to the wort?

Or should I just stick with the original kit and sit it out for 5 months?

From the Coopers kits I have done their yeast seems pretty reliable so not sure I would bother using anything else. I am putting a pale Ale in in the next few days, Just waiting for a delivery. I will be doing it with 1/2 kilo lsm and 1/2 kilo of brewing sugar with 40gms goldings and 20gms dried elderflowers which I am putting in a "teabag" and into the FV. Should give me nice summer beer.
