I live in a very warm flat. Great for fast fermentation, however not good for storing a in-use keg. Is there any way of chilling a keg for drinking, besides buying a large fridge and reserving it for that purpose? (ie like a brew belt, but opposite!).
Cheers,
Rich
How do I chill a keg?
Re: How do I chill a keg?
I've got mine in a larder style under counter fridge (ie one without a freezer box as these take up too much space inside. Cost £119. It was quite fun choosing as went around electrical shops carting a King Keg around and trying in various types / makes.mercilessrich wrote:I live in a very warm flat. Re: How do I chill a keg?
I also have a small, undercounter style fridge but mine had a freezer box inside. I unscrewed it and bent it down the inside of the fridge - now I can use it to lager with if I want
I got it free off freecycle and it just needed a good clean before use.
If you want an immediate solution, try soaking a couple of spare bath towels in cold water and laying them over the keg. The heat will transfer from inside the keg to the towels and dry them out in a couple of hours but you will be left with nice cool beer

Re: How do I chill a keg?
top tip from the desert - wrap it in a heavy damp blanket, and keep the blanket damp. This will chill the keg as the water in the blanket evaporates. Ensure the blanket doesn't dry out or you'll lose the cooling effect.

Or you could just buy a few freezer pint pots, or just get the extra large ones. Works for me
