Is my Headcracker FUBAR?
Is my Headcracker FUBAR?
Kegged a Woodfordes Headcracker on 15 Feb, so thought I'd have a sample today. Tastes like a pint from a barrel in a pub that been on for about a month, quite sharp almost vinegary. In addition, when I've poured the first pint out of other kegs, it's been pretty lively, whereas this glugged out as if it had run out of CO2. I probably only have 18 pints or so in this 5 gallon barrel as I've bottled 6, so could the fact that there was too much air in there to start with be a problem. Never done a barley wine before, so it might be meant to taste like this and will improve if I leave it alone. Got a nasty feeling it's knackered though. Any thoughts gentlemen??
Re: Is my Headcracker FUBAR?
Sounds like its oxidised, probably either didn't create enough gas during secondary ferment, or your barrel leaked, I would have been tempted to give it a squirt or two after barrelling and maybe a little check by opening the tap and checking for gas.
Could well be Fubar'd mate.
Hopefully your bottles are ok
