How Full to fill keg

Hi all,
Right ive just started a muntons bitter kit, and bought a youngs pressure barrel, just wondered how full do you fill these things? Do i need a couple of inches space at top for the co2 which will be produced? I know they hold 40 pints, but i dont want to over fill it!!!

Make your kit up to 40 pints. Put it all in the barrel.

You'll be amazed how much room is left

Hello. You'll have at least 3 inches of room when 40 pints go in.

The safest way is to brew in a separate FV with a 40 pint (22.73 litres) line marked on the side and then transfer over to the keg. Even with a Youngs budget barrel there should be plenty of space left left.
