simple i spose but not sure
Hi, i have just started with my first kit from Youngs.Well the first fermentation went to plan, and now its in the second barrel and have popped it somewhere warm (from what i have read about 5 days), but.I have a couple of small cannisters of gas and a little gizmo to wind em in.My question is (if i seem to be banging on a bit) when do i fizz them in and do put them both in or just the one.Sorry if it seems a bit of a daft question but like i said i am a newcomer.Thanx in advance for any help

Re: simple i spose but not sure
Yes, a simple enough question, you've got the Sparklets, you use them when you start drinking from the barrel, you'll know when coz the barrel will have no pressure, but you use each one, once, you've pobably got a little plastic thing to screw them on to the top of your cap with, make sure you don't get it cross threaded when you have to use them, I'm looking into using a different system, hopfully cheaper in the long run, but as you've just started, they will do for now!
Others will be in a better position to steer you in the right direction as your hobby developes!

Re: simple i spose but not sure
For some reason i thought i should put them in when i transfered into the barrel.Thinking that if i did it any later i would disdurb my bear yet again. So let me get this right i have to leave it somewhere warm for a few days then move it into a cooler spot for at least 2 weeks or more then when i want to get gulping i just fizz one in a day or so before and then the next one when its gettin flat again?.Oh and i just realised the only thing i didnt steralize was the syphoning tube whem i moved from bucket to barrel
.How big is that for a boo boo.Have i spoilt it?.

Re: simple i spose but not sure
BANG on, but make sure the top cap don't leak? petrolium jelly on your rubber seal (not over tightened) coz that's what I did, any ole how, when you're ready to sup it, it will have lots of C02 in it, when it stops coming out so fast, give it one of your sparklets, but only when the pressure demands it? don't worry, all this will become second nature to you, it did me, and I'm still learning, but BOY is it worth it, yep it is!

Re: simple i spose but not sure
And the tube?.Have i gone and recked it before i have even began?

Re: simple i spose but not sure
Sanitise every thing that moves, but you might be lucky, I wouldn't worry about that now, but I've got a to do list when I brew, you should think about making one, and then follow it to the letter!

Re: simple i spose but not sure
Lucky yeah right lol.I did rinse it through just didnt steralize it
whats the worst that can happen, rough beer?.

Re: simple i spose but not sure
I reckon it will be fine, we all make mistakes, you're new to this like me, but what you have to do is make sure you keep everything clean, you'll soon know if it's got an infection, but I've done similiar and it's been fine, best advice is worry if and when it happens, otherwise move on as if it hadn't happened!
