Hi,
have recently done a ditch's stout and i am really pleased with the results but for next time im planing on a coffee, milk or Liquorice stout but was wondering how to go about the latter. any ideas????

The Liquorice, you could grind up and boil up a bit of liquorice root and add it to the batch.

by liquorice root do ya mean the woody stuff from health shop? i do know that my local hbshop sells the hard liquorice sticks but i dont know about quantities, i realise to start small. but what is a good start point? one stick? two..... ect

Or you could use liquorice pellets which are concentrated liquorice. Often sold in health food shops or olde fashioned sweetshops.

Recipe here that uses pellets 12gms in 5 gallons.

I'd get the hard Woody stuff if I was going to do it, its milder than the black solid stuff which I'd guess would be easy to over-do!
You might have to pound the root with a hammer or something first if you can't grind it in an electric spice grinder (coffee grinder) or something.
