i did this kit as one of my first attempts. all i thought was that i have wasted good brewing sugar. stick to geordie or coopers lager.

Just been speaking to the guy in my home brew shop.............(think he used to run a "real" brewery) .......certainly knows loads of stuff!!! Anyway, he was telling me that the definitive kits are a type of syrup and not "proper" extract. The one refered to on e-bay with the yellow label, sounds like Bargain Brew............same story, I believe! I bought a definitve bitter, then read up on here and took it back in a panic. Its not woth saving a couple of quid to end up throwing ten quid and and a couple of weeks down the drain!

wished i had a good home brew shop by me, all i have is wilcinsons and you can't get advice from them (why this forum is fantastic ) anyways saving so much cash brewing my own beer think it's not worth skimping one a couple of quid on dirt cheap kits

Good morning Easty. I know what you mean about having a good shop near to you. Most of them are health food shops with a small corner for home brew, a bit like Wilkinsons. I know you are working on the lager kits, but a good value AND a good reputation, is the Woodforde's Wherry, also at Wilkinsons. I too have found this forum a huge help, there is a wealth of knowledge on here. I have been experimenting with altering kits by adding hops, spray malt and a variety of fruit ang veg. I have some strawberry mexican lager on the go at the moment
Have a look at the posts on extrat brewing and altering kits. Most of the ideas are pretty straight forward, only take a few minutes more and add just a couple of pence to a pint. Try some of the on-line shops. I know its a pain to pay the postage, but remember most of them are free on orders of about £60..........thats only 5 brews with some ingredients or some equipment ordered at the same time, (think what it costs to travel to Wilkinsons 5 times) unless you walk!

Dont do it!!! I used this kit early on in my adventures of homebrew and it was poor!

Stick to the Coopers Euro lager - great kit but it does need the extended conditioning time that it recommends (12 weeks in the bottle). [-o<

I used to brew Coopers Bavarian Lager and loved it. They have discontinued it and I have spent most of the past year trying to find a replacement.

I ended up on Coopers Brewmaster Pilsener. It's the only one I've tried that gives that Saaz hop flavour that gives a lager enough bite for me.
