Re: pondering over 2nd brew "cider perhaps"
HI, i've never tried them but they make like 40 pints and hats a lotof cider.
I hve a sort of turbo cider with a difference fementing now, Apple juice from Non concentrate ( the uk and lidl have loads of this cheap) some brown sugar at about 40 grams per liter, plus a couple of kilos crushed apples.
Its in the second day and the bubbles are eally starting to come.
it might be the cheaper way to do it in the initial stages, especially if you are not going to make so much.
I am tempted by the muntns one though but not being a huge cider drinker its kind of a lot to make up.
I am sure they re all really good though

Re: pondering over 2nd brew "cider perhaps"
I just finished a cider that I made from scratch "just out of interest".
Bought 20 litres of Sainsburys value apple juice (no additives and only 55p each). steeped some elderflowers (50g) in about 3 litres of it at about 80 degrees for 30 mins.
Added to FV with super strong black tea (ie about 6 bags stewed in a couple of cups of boiling water), plus 750g brown cane sugar.
Brewed using champagne yeast
It's a bit on the dry side for my liking, but 7.5%ABV, and perfectly drinkable when cold (albeit in smaller doses than pints!)
Definitely the cheapest 40 pints I've ever made (pretty much about £14 all in)

Generally added to provide Tannins and provide a dry taste to the cider.jonewer wrote:Just a quick question - Why the strong tea?
Re: pondering over 2nd brew "cider perhaps"
i have just done the muntons delux cider, it tastes nice but tastes weak at the same time, if i was to do it again i would probs make it for 30l instead of 40l. till i have some free bottles i cant do it. bummer

i can recommend the Finlandia cider kit, everyone that tried it enjoyed it and thought it was sweet and appley. Great over ice with a bbq !
Enjoy !

o good, i just bought some finlandia yesterday, about to commence brewing today, apple and pear cider,
i think im going to make it up to 20L, just to make it sweeter, and a bit more alcaholic.

I found the Finlandia cider way too sweet for my taste. If you like that sort of thing the pear cider (perry) from Finlandia will be up your street. I cannot drink it myself because it is sickeningly sweet. I tend to make 23 ltrs of unadulterated turbo cider (kegged) and I have never been disappointed. It even tastes nice over ice as seems to be the norm these days.
I hope you find one you like

Re: pondering over 2nd brew "cider perhaps"
my youngs brewbuddy cider has been in the fv for 4 days there i lots of fizz type action going onand the hydrometer is droppin but no big bubbles or froth on top is this the norm for a cider brew????
Re: pondering over 2nd brew "cider perhaps"
My first brew was a Magnums Cider. I had loads of action in the airlock but no froth, I presume this is normal. What I would say is let it mature well once you have bottled or kegged it as the flavour gets so much better (at least with the Magnums)
