Need an urgent answer - bottling!

Post by Gill » Sun May 31, 2009 10:28 pm

Hi all,

Sorry for this, but I realised whilst doing my bottling that I'm not QUITE sure how much room to leave at the neck. On one hand, I don't want the beer to end up flattish, and on the other I don't want to create bottle bombs. That's a little TOO exciting a brew for me.

I'm using standard 1pt "Grolsh"-style swing-top brown glass bottles, priming as I go along (0.5 tsp per pint). How much room do I need to leave?

Hope someone can help!

Thanks,

Gill.

Hi Gill

Leave about an 1 inch, Half way up the neck works for me.

Brilliant, Normski - thanks for the quick answer! That's exactly what I thought. :-)

Onwards with my bottling, then...

All bottled and in a nice dark place - glad that job's done, the next phases (conditioning...then drinking the stuff) will no doubt be easier. ;-)

I had a taste of the bit of leftover, unconditioned beer, and it wasn't bad at all! I reckon when it's been aged and has some fizz in it, it'll be a rather pleasant tipple on a hot day!

Thanks for the help.

Gill.
