Hi All,
Just finished kegging my second brew of Tom Caxton Real Ale and when it come down to adding the priming sugars (using new digital scales) it come to my attension that into my first brew (Norfolk Nog) using old scales i had put almost 200g of brewing suger for priming (scales were way off!) its been conditioning for 10days now, as you can imagine lots of carbonation when i draw a pint off! pint settles out (still cloudy) and tastes pretty good (works very well, after a pint i felt it....). I am concerned about pressure in the barrel which is fitted with a bulb CO2 valve, does this kind of cap have pressure release? will the beer settle with that much priming sugar in? any advice on how i should proceed would be appreciated, would fining help?

There should be a rubber band around the base of the valve. That's the pressure release.
Best wishes

If its a King Keg OSB is right and of course if thats correct the valve would have released any excess pressure over its design level....if you're concerned that the beer is overly gassed you could unscrew the lid a little to release some of the pressure (take care!) tighten it back up and leave it for a few days then retest...........as for finings i would leave it a couple more weeks to see if the beer clears by itself first.
Hope this is of help

Well.......Thanks for the advice men. I have released pressure by unscrewing the cap, i cannot now draw any beer off cos ive let too much CO2 out.... This brewing thing is a real rollercoaster! will this naturally repressure or will i need to put some CO2 into the Keg? i guess its a case of wait and see if it gasses up again, if not then plonk in a CO2 canister.

And, should ye end up back where ye were anyway? Leave the lid alone and, instead, just gently push something like a small, worn screw driver down between the top of that rubber band and the brass. Lever the rubber out, ever so slightly, and listen for the pish of escaping gas.
That way ye'll be releasing a damn sight less than ye likely did by overly loosening the entire lid.
Meanwhile; Relax

Ah Yes, More sound advice! checked last night late on and it pulled me a nice pint so i guess things are back on track. Tastes good and seems to makes you "happier" than a usual pint so all is well. Thank You.
