Coopers IPA & Wheat Malt Extract

Post by crafty john » Thu Jun 04, 2009 5:03 pm

I ordered a load of stuff from brewgenie.com and in my haste I orderd Coopers Brewmaster IPA and a bag of mutons Wheat Malt Exract instead of Coopers Brewmaster Wheat Beer #-o Will it be OK to use the Wheat Malt Extract with the IPA or should I save it for when I get a Coppers Wheat Beer Kit?

Cheers Guys

It might make an Interesting IPA, Just check whether or not Muntons Extract needs boiling first before adding it to your kit (you could just dissolve it in the hot water you would normally add to the kit to dissolve that and simmer for a few minutes) :)

It's DME so it should be OK to just mix it in with the kit and hot water. I might give it a try.

oops!! yeah, you said a bag!! ;)

yeah, just mix it! I tend to simmer my DME anyway as it gets rid of any clumps the easy way :)

Yeah I might simmer it cos sometimes it takes ages to get rid of the lumps, I had to give my Coopers Bitter another rousting yesterday cos I noticed a few lumps at the bottom of the FV

After reading your post i decided to make my Coopers Brewmaster IPA kit up with:
Wheat Spray Malt + Hopped Light Spray Malt + EKG Hop Tea + 200g Malto dextrin and about 300g dextrose (these last two things just to use some stuff up)

I bet mine is going to be really hoppy, I did mine on Saturday... and will probably bottle next Wednesday, I'll keep you posted too :) Think the OG was 1046ish, 1044 @ 33 degrees.

Had a sneaky taste yesterday and I am impressed, the wheat flavour has really come through, I am going to leave it to condition now for at least 6 weeks.

I Kegged the lot, I usually bottle 6 or 8 bottles if I am using a budget keg but I only had my rotokeg spare so I put the lot in cos otherwise there is too much head space.
