Coopers Lager

Post by Carpking » Mon Jun 29, 2009 3:09 pm

Hi All.
Brewed a lager kit to take on holiday in pet bottles (fishing/boating week in September). I'm normally an all grainer but for lager i just went with the kit. Made it up with spraymalt and fermented in the bath keeping it cool with ice bottles for a nice crisp flavour as its been a bit warm to ferment lately. In three days its down to 1.007. This seems very quick and its fine, i will bottle it tonight. My question is, is this a normal timescale for a lager kit to reach 1.007? I am going to put 2 decent teaspoons of sugar in each 2 liter pet bottle unless anyone recommends more/less. Smells nice and the hydrometer sample tasted pretty good yesterday.
Chhers for any tips or shared experience.

Hi Carpking
Which Coopers Lager did you brew and what was the OG?
I've done the Normal (Aus) Lager. With spraymalt. It started at 1045 and finished at 1013 after about 5 days I think. So yours down to 1007 in 3 days is very quick and low. It’s a real good brew, Bottled and very cold. 2 teaspoons per 2 l is about right. It will clear pretty quickly too. So should be very good for September, if you don’t drink it all before then.
