Fixby Gold
Fixby Gold
Hello - I have my first brew in, a Fixby Gold got off to a great start (Good yeast head) at a steady 18 c in the cupboard.
The question i have is, it's now day 5 and the gravity is still at 10.020. is this O.K or do you think it's a little slow?
Cheers in Advance.

I just thought i'd add -
I have a packet of youngs yeast - Should i add this?
Is it possible that my low temp is causing the problem? I thought 18 c was ideal.
I've checked it when the house was at it's coldest and it did'nt drop below 17 c .
The large yeast head was right up to the top of the bin for a couple of days and then it sunk back.
I have also made the kit up to about 35 - 36 pints i think, should this give a different reading than the required 10.010.

I dont believe the hydro will fall over....it will make it hard to read the level on the hydro though as you will not be at eye-level.Hoppkins wrote:I wouldn't leave it in the brew, it will fall over and be hard to get out and your hands will be full of harmful bacteria.
Best to get a 1 quid turkey baster and a sample tube.
Sterilise the baster each time and take samples with this.
