After reading lots of posts on this forum I decided on brewing my own beer, most of the equipment including bucket barrels bottles etc, was given to me by my son, I decided on a bitter as it is what I mostly drink when I am down the pub, I done everything to the letter except I went for a stronger brew and reduced the amount of water so that I would end up with thirty pints instead of forty, I left the wort for a week but the hydrometer seemed to stick just before the yellow which is suitable for bottling, I left it another couple of days and it had definately stopped whatever it was doing but still not on the yellow, so I then transfered it to the barrel, left it again for another week before sampling, cloudy and not very nice aftertaste, left another couple of days, still cloudy but tasing better, left it a furthur week now clear and taste quite nice, had a few pints but then lost pressure quite quickly possibly because I didnt fill the barrel in the first place, so I used my first gas bulb, great loads of pressure good head, had a few more the following night, and the next, then another bulb, after a few days got through three bulbs beer tasting lots better but unfortunatly its now all gone. I have read the posts on the forum about gas bulbs etc, but cant find why there is a button on the opposite side to the bulb that is spring loaded does this mean that it will take something other than bulbs.

I suspect that is the pressure relief valve.there is a button on the opposite side to the bulb that is spring loaded does this mean that it will take something other than bulbs.

Hi Mick
Welcome. I think you need to give some more details. Make model or a Photo would help get the answer you are looking for. Cheers.
p.s. maybe this should have gone in the Equipment posts not the Extract.
