Muntons Gold Imperial Stout

Post by bazookajoe » Tue Aug 04, 2009 12:09 pm

With the last bottle of Cooper's Stout gone from the house, I'm needing to get some stocks up again. The local homebrew shop didn't have any Cooper's Stout in stock but did have Munton's Gold Imperial Stout. I didn't buy it, would prefer the tried and trusted Cooper's Stout, but I did wonder if anyone had made the Imperial Stout, and what was it like? I seem to remember someone about to get one on the go a while back, how did it turn out?

I made this one in about january or febuary time and it has definitely been my favourite of my brews. it's a fairly hardcore stout in terms of flavour. really strongly roasted malt flavour, almost slightly treacley, and a very strong hop flavour and aroma. I'd definitely advise getting it. i decided to get a 2 gallon pressure barrel around the same time as doing this so partially kegged and partially bottled. for bottling i'd probably prime with a little less than they advise as it came out a bit too fizzy rather than a nice smooth foam.

Thanks for that, I think I'll give it a go, sounds a tasty one.
