Conditioning temperature

Post by vinceg » Sat Aug 08, 2009 12:12 am

In this hot humid weather we've got at the moment, the temperature in my house doesn't drop below 25ish degrees during the day. I don't have a cellar or garage which might be a little cooler, so how do you guys keep things at the right temperature for conditioning? ....and does it matter if the beer is conditioned at a higher temperature than is ideal?

I anticipated this problem to a certain extent and brewed like a madman in the spring so I'd got plenty to see me through the summer, but I'm starting to run a little low so will have to start brewing again soon.

All cheap simple suggestions appreciated.

Since I only drink ales, I don't get hung up with the current temperature. Don't worry in a few weeks time we'll be moaning how cold it is.

All I would suggest, without spending a lot of money, is to keep your kegs on the ground floor, north facing with no direct sunlight which I find is around 19C at present. OK that's about 5C higher than ideal but it doesn't affect the taste in my opinion since I never drink cold beer.
If you want colder beer, then you have to bottle and keep in a fridge.
