when measuring the s.g is it ok to just leave the hydrometer in the wort for several days and just take peeks? If not which way would people recomend?

but taking hydro readings regularly is a great excuse to taste your beer along the way! No wastage here!

If you have a tap on your fermenter then I would advise using this to draw off samples. As earlier mentioned you miss the oppurtunity to taste your beer as it progresses

yes i do have a tap on my fermenter and i also do drink the samples but would prefer to have more (albeit not much more) of the finished product.
