Fermentation bin question

Post by scouse_bier » Thu Sep 24, 2009 7:53 pm

Hi all

First time post from first time brewers. Have just completed the brewing process and are about to store the fermentation bin. Just wondering does the lid need to be fully clamped onto the bin or just sat on top to allow to breathe.

Any help welcome

Don't fully snap the lid down. Either fit it loosely or don't snap it down all the way around. During fermentation, the brew will produce Co2, this must be allowed to escape from the fermenting bucket.

For storage, I prefer to fit the lid properly. Make sure the bin is clean and dry though....

Me too. For storage. It's as much psychological as anything. No one wants to find dried up spiders in their kit.

But, what ever ye do, just remember; Cleansing and Sanitising, before use, are Everything.

Put the best kit in the world (eg. Coopers! ) into a biologically tainted FV? Ye f***ed before ye start.

Store any piece of kit where ever ye have room to. Up stairs. Down stairs. In the garden or the garage. Barely matters two hoops. It's the Thorough Sanitisation of Everything going to touch that kit and those ingredients that'll let ye sleep well and drink good results.

Saying all that; Why in hell Store a FV?! Get it full again!
