Bits and bobs

Hello,
I'm going to order some bits and bobs from a place I found here in Sweden (humle.se if you're interested). Basically I need some malt extract to make up Coopers kits but I also want to experiment with using speciality grains and hops to customise them a bit.
Can anyone recommend a few things to start with? I want to make something like an IPA with a lowish percentage and also want to experiment with dark ales. I'm not too bothered about making lager yet.
Any help much appreciated.
