Hello everyone.
On Sunday I bottled my first ever batch of homebrew. Today, after spending last night reading about exploding bottles I gave in to temptation and opened a bottle to see how carbonation was going (or if it was going at all). It has only been 5 days so I wasn't expecting much to be honest.
To my surprise I opened the bottle and heard a little fizz. I poured out the first half of the bottle and it looked pretty damn good! It was carbonated and had a head on it and everything! Of course I had to give it a quick taste to make sure it wasn't foul and it tasted good. I'm impressed, especially if it is supposed to be better in a couple of weeks.
The only slight worry is it doesn't smell too much like beer. It actually smelled quite a lot like a fart. Is this smell going to clear with time or will I be saying "it smells like farts but don't worry, it wont kill you and tastes ok" to everyone who has a bottle?

Re: smell from bottle
Could have been the co2 you were smelling or it may still be yeasty as its only young.
Re: smell from bottle
I did a couple of Coopers Euro Lager kits and both did this (it does warn you in the instructions about it being down to the yeast strain).
It took about 4 weeks but the 'fart'
aroma did go and the brew turned out really good.
Just give it time.

Thanks for the advice.
In that case it looks like my first brew was a success!
