well, my second brew i used a edme superbrew german style lager single can kit...didn't have any LME or spray malt etc, and didn't want to use normal household sugar so thought i would brew half volume and add no extra sugar... well i forgot this stuff's pre hopped and can only assume this has basically ended up with twice the hoppy bitterness it would normally have..

lets just say i have tried a bottle that has had 2 weeks conditioning after 1 week priming and oh my gosh, ow...that hurt my tongue!!!!!!!!

i can only assume it's quite a bitter kit to start with.....oh well, at least it's only half the volume, so only half as much to drink.

Presumably it's twice the alcohol content, so you could always dilute it with water when serving.

don't think so, as i said, didn't add any sugar so the OG wasn't that high.

I'm clutching at straws here but as the sugar would have basically turned into pure alcohol could you try watering some down and adding vodka?

It's not going to be as nice as "normal" beer but it might be worth a try before you ditch it.

Any reason you can't set this aside and come back to it in six months or a year? Hoppines does fade.
Several years ago I entered a British style barleywine in a competition and got severely down graded for it being too hoppy. I entered it again the next year and got second in B.O.S..
I'm just here for the beer.

well the good thing is that as it's only a half voulume brew, theres half as many bottles. i'll just keep them down the shed and try them in a few months. i've got about 5 in the fridge at the moment. i'l try some with lemonafe, lime or soda water and see how that goes, but i'm new to this, that was only my second brew. it will be quite intersting to see what effect time has on the taste of my brew. and i have my 3rd brew, a great eastern thats conditioning in a barrel, tastes ok at the mo and will be very good soon.

just trying to decide what to brew next. thinking of going for a brewers choice.
