Decided to have a crack at a kit ale and going to do a Geordie Yorkshire bitter.
am I right in thinking that I will get a better ale if I use spraymalt instead of sugar?
I'm going to follow the instructions off the information area of this site to the letter to make my ale.
What I'm looking for a bit of info on is the timings for the ale, can someone give me a rough idea of a shedule for the ale e,g.
day 1 - get ale going in fv
day 10 - prime and transfer to keg
day 40 - conditioned ale ready to drink.
Is it as simple as that?
another couple of noob questions, would I be ok to keg half and bottle half of the 40 pint batch? the only prob i can see with this is the air in the keg, however with priming this should be combatted by co2?
Also my keg is just a bog standard cheap kind, will this pull off a decent pint or do I need an attatchment?

Spray malt will definately be better.
Nothing wrong with your suggested timings, just be sure that fermentation has finished after 10 days in FV.
Cannot comment on splitting the batch as I have never done this.
The only problem I had with my cheapo keg was I had no way of injecting CO2 at the time, so as I was drinking, it was drawing in O2 (opening the lid now and again due to pulling a vacuum) which started to ruin the beer as I didn't drink really quickly. We live and learn
It did start off as a decent pint though!

Pretty much as above. Just to add that ye need to buy the proper brass for the kegs lid. Just as well to buy one fitted to a lid. Saves messing around with augers.
Be sure to get the one capable of taking a Hambleton Bard CO2 (Refillable) Cylinder. Not the one used for those stupid little 'sparklet' bullets. Complete waste of time and money.
