The hops should be boiled in the wort for the specified amount of time, not brought to the boil and left. The longer they're boiled, the more bitterness is extracted, whereas a 10 min boil will extract more flavour/aroma than bitterness.
The amount of time the beer should be conditioned in a secondary fermenter is highly variable; if you have one, use a hydrometer to check gravity readings and when the readings remain constant for 2-3 days, then it's ready to go in bottles or keg. 2-3 days should be fine, just make sure the beer has ceased fermentation before you transfer it to bottles/keg.
