1st wherry

hello, my wherry has been fementing for 8 days and the gravity is down to 1.010 for the last 2 days, no bubbles rising so looks like its finished fermenting but their is lots of sediment floating around in it so i dont know whether to keg it off or not, other brews ive made have started to clear by now

Sounds about right for wherry, it also takes quite a long time to clear I usually leave mine for a further 3 days after fermentation has finished. It won't harm it to keg it now though, it will be superb for xmas if you can stand waiting that long.

erm is different when it's in the keg mate, it might look clear in the keg but not really drinkable. you coul dtry adding finnigs to it if you want to drink earlier, I try to leave 4 weeks from kegging o drinking but only cos I have 4 kegs & 2 FV's to keep a rolling stock going.

tery a small glass straight after you keg to see how it tastes, then you only need to wait for 2nd fermentation & carbonation to have a great pint :)

once its kegged i'll leave it 2-3 weeks before trying it, i was only worried about this one because the other brews ive done have all started to clear from the top in the fv before bottling or kegging them but the wherry is still really cloudy and full of sediment. are all 2 tin kits like this?

I mainly do 2 tin kits & have always found them to clear in same time as 1 tin kits mate. Usually about 2 weeks. Your tiomee before drinking will give you a great pint I'm sure ;)

Hello,
I'm new to the forum. I have just done my first kit Woodfordes Wherry. I have just taken the first reading today and it is 1014. It has been in the FV for 1 week. From the previous posts I think I can safely leave it a little longer before I put it in the keg. Does anyone know if adding finnings will help and if so, at what point?
Do I need to wait until the reading is down to 1006 before kegging? I then intend to leave until Christmas.
Thanks for any advice or comments.

north1 you need to wait until the fermentation stops, this when you get consistent hydro readings 24 hours apart. Mine usually finishes in about 7 days but each case is indivdual mate ;)

You can add finings I sometimes do if I have got behind with my brew cycle it gets it clear quicker & tastes ok but i prefer to leave in keg if I can to get a better flavour :)

North1 Wherry usually stops around 1012 so just wait an extra couple of days.

Wherry takes a little more time to clear due to how thick the beer is. It's a very good pint, I'm halfway through mine so I'm going to have to start another very soon!

Thanks for the replies Scottmoss and Fractureman,
I have taken two readings on successive days and the reading is 1014. The temprature has been a bit low 16 to 17c. I will leave it for a few more days and hope it keeps fermenting. I wil probably get a heater for the next brew as I guess it's difficult to keep a constant temp at this time of year without one.
Cheers.

Yes I've just started to use the heater due to the cold tempertures when I'm at work or through-out the night!
