Please could someone help me, I have a problem with my lager.
I am new to homebrewing and this is only my 3rd attempt, I brewed a kit lager and it has failed to carbonate correctly.
it was left fermenting for just over 2 weeks (as adviced by someone instead of a week)
I bottled it with 1/2 a tea spoon of sugar and it has been in the bottles for 7 weeks
when i pour it there is some fizz but it quickly rises and the lager tastes very flat.
is there anything i can do to carbonate the lager or is it a lost batch? have I done anything wrong?
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Lager not carbonated
Re: Lager not carbonated
Coopers recommend you carbonate lager with 160 grams of sugar, half a teaspoon per pint is about 85 grams. I suspect there was just too little sugar. You could try opening a bottle up, adding some more sugar and then sealing it again to see if it recarbonates but that could be a lot of work for the whole batch.
Also did you leave them in the warm for a week after bottling for the yeast to complete carbonation?

Re: Lager not carbonated
Thanks for the advice.
I did leave the bottles in a warm place for a week before moving them into the shed also it says to put half a tea spoon of suger in on the back of the kit.
i was wondering if the yeast had died due to fermenting too long, is this likley to be the case or do you think it is just a suger problem?
