Put keg outside?

Post by mlradford » Sun Nov 29, 2009 3:08 pm

My St Paul's Ruby ale is part bottled but mainly kegged. All seems to be well and I think the second run of fermentation is complete both in the bottles and the keg. I normally would put both in the cooler part of my kitchen but am getting some grief from my wife.

Could I put both outside. I suspect yes unless it looks like its going to freeze.

What do you all think?

You have hit it right on the head Mark, you have to watch out for the freezing temps...that is unless you are trying to make

I've never tried it but it would take a big freeze to freeze 40 pints of beer, especially if you had somewhere sheltered and used something like an an old sleeping bag around the keg for insulation.

I'm already all over this like a rash, going to be insulating my shed in March-ish.

Plus...
My shed is always over-shadowed by my house, so always coolish.

Is it timber with a felt roof? Some folk were reporting temperatures as high as 40C in timber sheds last summer.

I don't get anywhere near that when it's sat in the shade. It's always been coolish.
