Brooklyn Brew Shop Kits

Post by Danmonk » Mon Nov 30, 2009 2:13 pm

Has anyone seen/used the kit sold by these guys?

http://brooklynbrewshop.com/

I can't quite work out what it involves. Is it similar to the way we do kit brewing over here or is it a little different?

Apologies if this is a slightly dense queston with an obvious answer but I've not started my homebrewing habbit yet. I'm planning to start in the new year.

And don't worry, I'm not ordering my kit from the states, just a little curious...

Hi!

To me it looks like more of a dry kit like the brewers choice or hambleton bard dry kits which are used in the UK... These consist of some dried malt extract some grains (which you steep) and hops which you boil to obtain your hoppy wort... :)

This is slightly more involved than adding water and additional fermantables to a 1.5-1.8 kit which is the most common form of 'kit beer' in the UK...

Price wise they seem to come out similar in price to the aforementioned Brewers choice or HB dry kits (if you go for the mixw/o equipment option)....

Hope this helps....

Beer kits in the US tends to mean any kind of preassembled ingredient kit, whether it be all-grain or extract. Here it tends to mean pre-hopped, no-boil cans of extract.

So what they're offering is a one-gallon all-grain kit that doesn't require much equipment.

ChrisX1/Daab had a good guide to doing a 1 gallon full mash in your oven, fermented in a PET water bottle, but I can't find his website at the minute :?

Chris/Daab
Shame that sounds interesting....

There are a few AG only (I'm currently only able to kit/extract brew-extract in small quantities) recipes in the 3rd edition of GW's book I'd certainly be interested in trying.. My stock pot (for boiling & together with a cool box for mashing) is only 9 litres but thats only 6-7 l with a de3cent headspace for the boil...

I've no idea what webarchive is could you elaborate please?
I'd be interested in hunting the method out and giving it a go...

:)
Many thanks!

Thanks guys

I'll definately give the mini mash a go. I'd been put off FM because of the equipment envolved but this makes it look a lot more accesible.
