Youngs definitive bitter

Post by pappyon » Wed Dec 02, 2009 5:18 pm

I bought a hutchful of this stuff because I was getting it cheaper buying it in bulk.

Some of the brews are coming out a lot lighter than others. When I checked the batch numbers I discovered that there were two different numbers, so I assume they were made at different times.

Could somebody who makes this beer tell me it some of it looks more like lager thant beer. In other words is it supposed to be very light in colour!

It may be beneficial if you tell us what fermentables you are using with the kits and how much water you are adding

I make 43 litres of beer at a time using 2.6 Kg of malt.

The strange thing is regardless of the volume of water used or the quantity of malt, some brews as I have said are coming out lighter in colour than others, hence me thinking it has to do with different batches. I used to use Crosse & Blackwell gravy browning (burnt sugar) to darken the brews, but I can't get it any more.

Even when a brew comes out darker, none of them are as dark as brews I have been making up to now with Brewmaker etc.
