Yeast nutrient...When, Why and How?

I'm going to start a Woodfordes Nelsons Revenge in a few days and I have been given some Wine yeast nutrient. Can I use it with my beer yeast? Is it worth using? If so how and how much? (I'm asuming that I'd add it to the yeast when I rehydrate it?)

I use the Wyeast Nutrient Blend and add 1/2 tsp at the last 15 minutes of the boil for a 5 gallon batch.

i don't think it's really necessary in beer as malt is the perfect nutrient blend for yeast, lots of free amino nitrogen and plenty of minerals so i'd save the nutrient for wines or TCs. i've never used any yeast nutrient in beer, just in other things like mead, and had no problems.
