messing with the quantities.
messing with the quantities.
I quite like the look of the Brewferm Diablo kit. Off the shelf, it produces 9 litres of 8% Belgian beer. I was thinking that perhaps 9 litres int very much for the money and effort so I did some sums and assuming theres a direct link between volume of water and strength, upping the liquid to about 12 litres would reduce the abv to around 5%. I did wonder if its possible to up the amount of water used without any adverse efects the the finished product or are there other considerations to be made when messing about with a kit?
Re: messing with the quantities.
I wouldn't alter the brewlength of the brewferm kits as they are set at the different volumes they are for a reason rather than just saying 40 pints as all the other companies do. if you alter the brewlength in the way you mention then you'll likely have an overly thin, watery and flavourless beer.

Hi!
FWIW I 'd repeat the advise of not messing with the breferm kits brew lengths...
I have done this with other kits with variable success
With brewferm I would recomend you stick to the instructions.... I made a Brewferm Ambiorix and now its aged for the 3+ months it is SUPERB!
this kit only produced 15 litres of 6.5% beer but with a superb taste, it has a great head and nice compact bubbles...
The use of candi sugar is also a good idea if you can get soem from your HBS or you can make it yourself!
(search 'candi sugar' on this forum for details)...
My next kit on is the Brewferm pils which makes 9 or 20 litres(instructions for each with the kit)...

Re: messing with the quantities.
The candi sugar looks quite simple to make. Once made would you dissolve it into warm water/warm beer before adding to the brew?
Re: messing with the quantities.
Hi,
yes maybe make the candi sugar a day or two before you plan to brew....
Then on the day of brewing - disolve the candi sugar in a (clean & sanitized) pan on the stove and gently raise the the heat whilst stiring gently (to reduce the risk of burning the sugar)
You could boil the sugar water once the candi sugar has disolved.... Even a short boil will improve sanitation
If you wish to add any extra hops (although I've personally not added hops to brewferm kits) you could add them to the hot water effecting the 'hop tea' method and leave to steep...

Hope that helps
