Flat beer 2 days after kegging

Post by cheshire31 » Tue Jan 05, 2010 1:21 pm

I kegged with recommended amiount of glucose powder. It has been cold so secondary fermentation might not of occured. It is a case of just leaving it for a couple more days or is it a right off?

Get it somewhere warm and give it 2 weeks. Then put it in the cold.

It will be fine!

Alternatively; Give it a shot of CO2 from the bottle and get amongst it :D

That's what I do. Because I simply have no facility for keeping beer warm in the keg. So ye see, I am 'making the best of a bad job', as it were. But, I drink my own stuff regardless of weather and temperatures.

Just taken my third sup from my new Wooden Tankard from Provenance Coopering. Would ye believe; Home Brew tastes better 'from the wood'?

Garth; I got the Cherry Wood and Ash one. I had it delivered to my local and it was waiting for me today. When I took it out of its box I instantly became the epicentre of attention! It was like producing a new baby in a room full of women! Everyone was giving it, " Oooohh! " and " Aaaahh! "

Seriously, mate, these things are beautiful. And so light! Aside from how lovely they look, the amazing quality and finish. The moment ye take it in ye hand, ye struck by how amazingly light they are.

And, yes. Seriously; This stout tastes noticably better that it did last night, out of a glass. Dunno why. But I know I'm not kidding myself either :)

now that's an object of beauty, wouldn't mind one of those myself. Got a few pot tankards I'm partial to drinking ale from. Me pewter tankard I tend to use for chilled beers which I hardly drink many of, but for me personally there's nowt better than a pint of cold Newcastle Brown Ale out of a pewter tankard, with condensation dripping down the outside, cor... =P~ Stout I like out of glass best.

I ordered mine after the 25th. I saw people mentioning theirs in the Tap. It might have arrived yesterday, for all I know? Don't forget, I'm in Eire, of course

Roger ~ the bloke who makes them ~ seems to be slightly freaked out just now. LMFAO! I suppose he's used to a steady little trade from the Country Shows and Steam Rallies he has a stall at? Seems the praise his stuff's getting here, on JIM'S has knocked him flat! He's sold out and is desperately trying to keep up with a new surge in demand!

Fair play to the guy. One bloke saw mine today. Asked what it cost me. Then gasped, " How Much?! Dear lord! I'd pay £100 for something like that!!! ". No one disagreed! =D>

all the co2 i have is the stuff i got with the kit. Is that ok to use? Will it give hte beer a bit more life. I can taste a good flavour under all the flatness and it has a cracking head for barely a shot of beer.

Cheshire; Sorry about bending ye thread there, mate! They made me do it

Yeppers; Do we take it ye have the silly little bulbs? Well, they'll be fine ~ for now.

Only, I'd strongly suggest ye replace the brass that comes with the keg cap ye have there. (Do ye have a Keg?) Either way; Buy a new cap, one with the brass suited to a Hambleton Bard refillable bottle. And buy a bottle too.

I Know it's an expense and a bitch. But, that bottle will soon pay for itself, against the cost of those nasty little sparklet things. Ye can trust that statement

if it has a head but no 'fizz', then it could mean that it's too warm, but it does mean that some CO2 has been produced,

as previously advised, keep it warm for another week or so then move it to a cooler place to serve, the cold will allow more of the CO2 to be absorbed into the beer, so you should end up with a foamy head and life in the beer.

the CO2 produced by the secondary fermenation will not be enough to dispense a full keg of beer, this is when you'll have to add some from the bulbs/cannisters you got with the kit, then do as Ditch says and get a larger bottle, hambleton/soda stream and a S-30 valve or similar for the top of your barrel cap.

Had a taste. Tastes great but still needs a bit more time conditioning. Will move to the garage soon.

5 Days is nothing. It needs 4-6 weeks really. I've expecially heard that the Wherry is particularly bad, sometimes needing 8 weeks to clear...This is good because conditioning time genuinely improves the taste of your beer...
